Yahoo Buzz is part of the collective Yahoo network so as you can imagine, it gets a lot of traffic on a daily basis. According to Yahoo themselves, the website has millions of people that view content on the network daily. This is not a shocker because Yahoo! is the most trafficked website in the entire world on any given day (according to alexa), so you know that it receives berserk amounts of traffic.

In addition to that, the traffic from the network is high quality. Users are more likely to spend time on your website and read your content, which could therefore lead them to be interested in your offers. 1) Step One: Register for an account and fill out your profile

You will need an Yahoo! email account in order to register for a profile on the network. If you already have one, then you can simply enter your login details and you will already be registered for the network. Your display name will be the first name that is listed in your Yahoo! email account, so if you want to edit this then you can do that by making the appropriate changes in your Yahoo profile. Once you are logged in, simply click on the “edit profile” link on the right hand side of your profile. The first thing you will see on the left hand corner is a box that says “what you are doing.” Think of this as a complimentary micro-blogging service that Yahoo buzz provide their users with.

Similar to that of Twitter, you can post short snippets of content with a link back to your website. In addition, tell a little about yourself and your business by filling the “About Me” section. Last, start a blog on Yahoo! Buzz. 2) Step Two: Segment and add friends

Adding friends in Yahoo buzz is a little tricky compared to other social news networks. The reason for this is because you cannot see who particular buzzed a story, nor the most active users of a network. You can only view the users who have submitted content, not the ones that actually voted on it. In addition, there is an anonymity factor built into the network because sometimes users can submit content under an “anonymous” identification. If this is the case, then you will not be able to connect to these users so just skim over them. However, for those that are not submitting under anonymity, then you can easily connect with them by first clicking on their profile username then click on the “invite to connect” icon.

In order for them to see the stories that you submitted they must accept you as a friend, and then they will be notified of when you added a new story. In addition, you may see individuals that comment on the stories, and it is safe to assume that if they are commenting on a particular story, then they are interested in that topic. You can then pick and select which individuals that are commenting on a story that you would like to add as a connection.

Yahoo makes it easy to gauge how active an individual is by making their buzzlog (history on Yahoo buzz) public to users of the network. However, if an individual set their buzzlog to private then that means that you cant see what they have been doing on the network. The more active members are definitely the better connections to establish.

3) Step Three: Submit your story To submit a story, scroll down until you see a “submit a story” button or visit this url here: http://buzz.yahoo.com/submit/.

Once that is done you should:

1) Edit the description of your story (which is taken from snippets of yourcontent at first).

2.)Place your story within the appropriate category that it belongs to.

3) Label what type of medium it is (text, audio, video), and then fill in the
captcha and submit. Once your story is submitted you can add a comment on the story (which is recommended by Yahoo Buzz) to tell everyone what you think about the story. Having lots of comments in a story will give people incentives to read it and participate in the discussion as well. Once your story is submitted it, all of them will end up in the “upcoming section” here: http://buzz.yahoo.com/upcoming. If your story receives quick votes in a short duration, then it can get on the front page.

4) Step Four: Expand Market your story by joining yahoo groups and emailing your friends whom have yahoo accounts. To visit yahoo groups go here: http://groups.yahoo.com/. Join a group that fits the theme of your story and build a discussion around the article that you just buzzed. For most of the groups, especially the ones with the bigger numbers, you will need to wait for approval to get into the network.

Its a good idea to not just post the article and ask people to vote on it, but you should more like integrate the content of your story within the theme of the discussion of the group so that you don’t come off as spamming. Online groups are known for getting spammed so its a good idea to take the necessary precautions so that you don’t look like you are doing that, or just posting your story to get votes without contributing nothing back to the community.

In addition to your friends getting notified about the story when you post it, you can also email friends that you know have a yahoo email address about the story, and tell them about it and ask them for a vote if they like it. Since they will already have a yahoo account, it will take them hardly no time to register for the network and give your story a vote.

In matter of fact, once your story is submitted to the network, you can with a click share your story with some of your friends without even logging into your yahoo email account. You can do that by clicking on the “send” icon in which your story is submitted under. Once you click that, a dialog box as depicted below will pop up. You can then fill out your email address which will be the one that is attached to your Yahoo Buzz account by default. You will also have the opportunity to choose how you want to send your new message, which is via email or yahoo instant messenger. If you have a lot of friends on yahoo instant messenger, then I would actually recommend this alternative contact method because its more quicker or as Yahoo puts it, more “instant.”

However, if you don’t have many contacts established on yahoo instant messenger, then you can simply send it via email. Make sure to separate all of the individuals that you want to send your story to with commas. For example, is this format: email1@yahoo.com, email2@yahoo.com, email3@yahoo.com, and etc.

Last, you can enter the message that individuals that your sending the story to will see. Make sure to make this personal to your friends, like: “something I know that you will be interested in,” to hook their attention. Once you have all of that filled out, just click “send” and your story will be sent to all of the individuals that you declared it to be sent to.

It does not make sense to submit your story during this time period knowing that it will not get much coverage. So, just keep your mind out for that and pay attention to what news is already covering the network so that you can maximize the coverage that your story receives.

Additional Ways To Boost Your Traffic

You can also use black hat techniques to help ensure your spot on Yahoo buzz front page as well. This method is really simple. Just hire some data entry individual to make you around 30 yahoo accounts using different ips. You can probably get this done for as little as $10. Then, simply login and vote on your story in Yahoo buzz. However, make sure to set your buzz activity to private so that users cant see that you are only voting on certain stories which will lead to a huge red flag.
